Just Got No Go

May 8 - While Matthew went to work, the rest of us took off for Minneapolis. Finally, some great weather and only one race weekend, so looking forward to a relaxing, fun evening. Jacob had the outside pole in the heat and from the time the green flag dropped, it was clear something was wrong. Trying to figure out what is another story. Jacob came off the heat race and didn't like his car. He doesn't have enough seat time to really diagnose the problem. With a very tacky track and it changing race by race, Jacob was convinced it was the setup. So, the boys changed the springs. Thanks to texting, Matthew weighed in with his advise.

Jacob started 17th in the feature and just like in the heat, it looked like he had no go. As the race went on, it was painful to watch as lap cars came around. From the pit area, I could see something glowing red and B. came over to tell me it was the manifolds. I asked if they should do that and he chuckled a bit with a big "No!" Finally, with only two laps to go, Jacob pulled off. Luckily, he hung on long enough for other cars to be out already so he ended up with a 15th place.

Back in the pits, he told Dad he had pulled off cause the temperature was so high, but he was trying hard to finish the race. Thankfully, he probably pulled off just in time to save the motor. When we got back to the pits, the manifolds were solid red. I'd never seen that before. Steve quickly found the problem. Turns out the distributor had come loose. Our theme this year so far seems to be things that have never happened before.

Jacob reminded us what Steve had said early in the year. "New driver, new problems." I reminded Jacob that this wasn't a driver problem! We all laughed. He was happy because he felt he had the right setup and he knew he would have placed better. They'll go through the engine this week, replace the plugs and wires and make sure it is ready for a 3-nighter next weekend. Friday is Hays, Saturday is Minneapolis, and Sunday is Jetmore. Plus a graduation in Greensburg in there as well. Should be a busy weekend!
