The Last Points Race
September 25 marks the final points race of the 2010 season for us. Matthew and Steve traveled to Goodland for Flatlanders while Jacob and I traveled to the high school to judge the debate tournament. A big thanks to Amber for taking over my photo duties. Thanks to her, I will have pics of Matthew accepting the track championship which I will post later.
Third in the heat race and third in the feature is about all I have on the race which is a great way to finish the season - especially after all the work the boys did this week. Like most things in life, you can look back and wonder why you didn't react sooner, but you don't know what you don't know. The boys have been fighting the setup and fighting getting it to turn. Finally, Steve started wondering if the big wrecks mid-season might have bent the rear-end which is throwing them off. Turns out, that is what was wrong. I don't know the details, but I know they got with their consultants Randy and Richard for analysis. Then, they got with their chassis builder - yeah, same guys - for some help straightening it. Big thanks to the Wilsons for all of their help all season. It is amazing to me the learning curve and we always feel bad bothering them, but in the end, we wouldn't be here without them.
So, the boys worked every single night right up to the time to load the car. Anyone that races knows that level of work and dedication is part of the sport, but the boys were pretty tired by the time they pulled out. And, now that it is fixed, they have to still figure out the setup! So, you can see that a top five is a darn good way to finish the points season. In a couple of weeks, the points will be finalized by IMCA and I'll let you know where we ended up.
Next weekend, we are at Dodge City for the two-day shootout - Northern SportMods against Southern SportMods. The promoter thinks he'll get 200 SportMods - my prediction is he'll get 100. For those new to racing, there are races the rest of this year but they no longer count for IMCA points. They are just money races and bragging rights. Hopefully, we can do some bragging after next weekend. Luck meets skills. Matthew has the skill so we just need a little luck if you can send some our way, that would be great!
LOL.
