Two Races Down, One To Go
September 17 - Final 3-day weekend of racing as we head to Hays on Friday night. Matthew starts in 5th in the feature and finishes 5th. He was disappointed as he really wanted to make tech. He looked really good in one and two and really bad in three and four so I was just glad he hung on for 5th. And somehow he managed to take 2nd place for overall track points. A big congratulations goes out to Clayton Wilson for his win and the track championship. I am proud Matthew finished behind this veteran driver who is so deserving.
Saturday we headed back to Dodge. Grandma Effie enjoyed being in the pits watching all the work the boys did to get ready. She commented on just how much Steve and Matthew are alike which definitely shows in the pits. Pretty entertaining to watch most of the time.
Matthew started in 6th but was up to 2nd within a few laps. Then he drove so hard to catch up and did everything he could to pass but just couldn't get any grip anywhere to help him out. Fog moved in and it was pretty slick. After the race I told Matt that since it was 20 laps I kept hoping the guy would get tired and make a mistake towards the end. Matthew chuckled and said he actually thought the same thing during the race. It was a fun, exciting race and Matthew really showed how good of a driver he is during that race. And is fan club showed how dedicated they were as the blankets were brought out in full force.
Sunday it is on to Wakeeney for their final race of the season. I decided to post an update now as by the time we get home from WaKeeney, it will all be a blur. Hopefully, we can end up in tech tonight. Last time at WaKeeney was when we had the bad luck with the battery so I figure we are due for a good luck night there. Cross your fingers for us! I'll let you know how it turns out on Monday!
