12th Win of the Year

August 28 - Drove to Dodge City, won the race, drove home.  That's what Steve told me to write!  LOL.  There is a bit more to the story.

Boys had trouble with the engine and put in some extra time this week finding the problem.  If they hadn't, I think there is a good chance we would have had a blown motor instead of a win.

Matthew took second in the heat and then the boys changed the setup, prepped the tires and did all the work necessary to prepare for the feature.  The track was slick and rough.  You could really see that in turns 3 and 4.

Matthew start in 4th and took a few laps to work his way to 2nd.  Then, the leader spun out in turn 2 right in front of Matthew.  Matthew somehow dodged and missed him.  I honestly think I heard a collective gasp from everyone in the stands followed by cheering when Matthew missed that wreck.  Or maybe that was just me!  Our night definitely could have quickly ended right there.

This caution put Matthew in the lead and he never looked back.  And my bottom feeder who loves to stick to the inside of the tracks finally moved up to the wall.  He had a good lead until the last few laps and it looked like the second place car was closing in.  Steve wants to look at the engine again because Matthew didn't make one mistake driving but it was falling off towards the end so time to go back through the motor and check everything again.

We had a caravan of vehicles and several new friends and relatives that were dragged along by others to the races.  There were 19 of us together cheering for Matthew and that kind of support is awesome.  Words can't express how great it is to be with everyone, having fun and cheering Matthew to a win.  I am so thankful to each of our family and friends for coming out and it makes the wins more fun.  And, as Jessica said, "This is an adrenaline rush."  It definitely is.

Friday night we return to RPM Speedway in Hays and Saturday we are back in Goodland.  We might be racing in Norton Sunday and Monday, but not sure yet.  Of course, it also depends on how Fri. and Sat. go so it might be a last minute decision.  Matthew will also celebrate his 18th birthday on Sunday and of course, you know where I hope we are celebrating!  In Victory Lane!  Or camping - I'd be ok with that too!  LOL.
