A Good Weekend!

July 6 – What a great weekend! We started off Thursday night enjoying the Rush Co. Fair. The boys even won Rylee a Daffy as a souvenir. On Friday, we played golf and then, it was time to go racing at RPM Speedway in Hays.

Rylee jumped in and changed her first shock and our luck changed that night back in the right direction! Gage was also with us so everything was just going right from the beginning. Matthew worked his way up to fourth. He was clearly faster than the car he was stuck behind, but Matthew was thinking big picture points. He knew he had a car right behind him, so if he made a move and so did he, he could end up the same or losing a position. He was racing smart and put the car in tech which was the goal.

Dad has some setup ideas to try for our next race at Hays to help him pass faster on the outside. Mom filmed the race so he can study. He is going to conquer Hays yet and in his own way.

Saturday it was on to Dodge City. Nine cars in the feature and he started 5th. He made it up to third pretty quick and then patiently came forward taking the lead with two laps to go and never looking back. He raced everyone clean and even got a thumbs up after his win from one of the Southern SportMods. Once he got in front, he was gone and almost a front stretch away when he took the checkered. Sweet.

After the race, his fan club told him they were all exhausted. There was a lot of cheering, praying, hoping, and adrenaline going on in the stands. If our will had an impact, he would definitely win every race as some of us are concentrating, others are holding the other cars up, and others are pushing Matthew with the greatest cheering section ever.

And, I forgot to tell you last weekend that Steve found his watch. It had been MIA for about a week. He was prepping the car and trailer for this weekend when he picked up a tire and heard a rattle. It was a tire mounted at the track last weekend, so he broke it down. Sure enough, there was his watch in a million pieces. He called to tell me that a Timex does NOT take a licking and keep on ticking! We celebrated our 25th wedding anniversary last week and I needed to get him something, but money has to go to racing so I think this now qualifies! LOL (laughing outloud)

Four nights of racing this week. Stockton Fair on Wednesday and Thursday nights, WaKeeney on Friday and we’ll either be back at Dodge City or go to Mayetta on Friday. Oh, I forgot to mention, due to low car count, Steve was ready to go back to Minneapolis last Saturday night. But, he had a nightmare and woke up to say we are going to Dodge instead. Yes, I am glad we did! I’d like to stay away from the nightmares and stay in victory circle!
