Decent Finishes
June 6: 6th place at Hays. No one was doing much passing by the feature and Matthew worked hard to make it up that far. Just not a good track. First really hot weather we've had. I don't know if that is the reason. I hope that is not the type of track we have the rest of the summer. I think everyone had fun though. Matthew had a huge fan section with all the grandparents, (Carol, Gary, Effie and Carl), cousins Cody, Nicole, Aunt Dorothy, Uncle Clarence and his brother and sister. Grandma Carol won one of Matthew's t-shirts during a giveaway which was pretty darn funny. The announcer was laughing before he read the name. It was very kind of them to swap it out for a nice bucket of car supplies.
Saturday, Steve and I had a heck of a time getting the car out of the trailer. It was tracking to the left so bad, Steve thought for sure something was bent. He couldn't find anything though. Grandpa Brandt and I beat out the fender. Jacob slept. Matthew went hunting. Been so long that we weren't rushing out for parts and trying to repair the car, it is hard to remember. Everyone met up at Grandma Effies for lunch and then we were off to Dodge.
Rylee and Caitlin joined us there and we made Rylee the water truck spotter texting us with updates as the boys tried to figure out track conditions so they could set up the car properly. Track there wasn't very good in the heat race, but by feature time, it was great. Matthew tried a lot of different lines and you could see him really working through the field until he found it and got really fast. He worked his way to third and was right there with the leaders but just ran out of laps. A few more and I am sure he would have passed those last two cars. It was a good, clean race. Hope we have more of those going forward!
Same problem loading car up last night so it has Steve baffled. But, hey, he was fast so if it is twisted in some great way, we won't complain!
Next weekend is Hays, Norton and WaKeeney I think.
