Likin' Those Half Mile Tracks!

August 12 - 13:  Two-night show at the Stockton Fair on another half mile track and two more top five finishes!  Matthew is on a great streak and we are definitely enjoying every minute of it.  He had to work hard the first night as he just didn't have the right setup.  And, as usual, he had two bad draws.  He drew 80 out of 100 for his heat race and I do not remember his finish, but I remember the redraw.  Out of 12 numbers, you guessed it, he drew 12.  One of the officials, Don, brought the lineup over to me and he even chuckled saying, "Your boy just can't draw."  We laughed and Matthew said that was the last time he was drawing.  So, he started mid-pack and worked his way up to 3rd place!  Of course, 1st place went to BJ, the soon to be national champion and 2nd place went to Hudson, the oldest racer in the class.  BJ was clocked going 89 mph in to turn one.  Matthew is so loose, I'm not sure how he hangs on to the car.  He missed the setup that night.

We are all set for Jacob to draw the second night but they line up by points instead this night.  That means Matthew starts in 10th position for the feature.  He works his way to 2nd place.  The gap BJ had on Matthew is about the same as the gap Matthew has on the 3rd place car.  Matthew is really tight.  He needed to reverse the setups between the two nights.  Just part of the learning curve.

We enjoyed fair food.  Stockton has a great fair.  It was a fun couple of days.  And I met a couple of "old" racers, shared some beer and a few stories.  I am convinced that some of the nicest people in the world race cars.

We are getting ready for a weekend of racing now.  Saturday Minneapolis has their "Fan Appreciation Day."  11 to 2 they have a car show and meet and greet with the drivers.  At 3, they have a parade.  Then the races in the evening.  That is going to be a long day for us!  Then, we travel to WaKeeney for the Sunday evening show.  Then, it gets really fun as we have to drive back for school the next morning!  I am tired just thinking about it.
