4 - 3 - 2 = A Top Five Weekend!

July 17 and 18 we raced at Goodland where Matthew brought in a 4th and 3rd place finish.  He was tied for first place at the track; so of course, it was disappointing when he was beaten both nights.  It was especially disappointing when the car in front of him one night received three warnings in post-tech, yet no DQ.  This is the part of racing that I fail to understand.  And, as parents, of course, we want to help Matthew succeed.  It is very tough with all the changing track conditions and variables in this sport.  These were two great finishes, yet Matthew knew he could do better which just added to our frustration in not knowing what to do to help.  But, in the end, Matthew showed more character than most adults.  He stands by his principles of not cheating and of racing clean.  Words fail to really capture how tough this can be in the heat of the moment at the race track.

July 19 we traveled on to Colby where Matthew started off the night winning his heat race.  This put him in the cash dash which he finished in 2nd place.  On to the feature where I think he started in 6th place, but drove up to 2nd within the first lap or two and held on to 2nd for the rest of the race.

Three top 5's, no damage to the car and the parents learned a great deal this weekend!  Hopefully, the boys learned a few things too. Next weekend will find us in Hays and in Osborne.  Friday night is Lady's Night at Hays and the girls get in free!  Hope you can join us.
