Two in a Row!
June 18 - Jacob finishes in third place at 81 Speedway last Thursday night. Thursday feels like a long time ago! My biggest memory of the race is the last two laps where Jacob passed several cars. I have no doubt if he could have drove the whole race like he did the last couple of laps, he would have had an even better finish. He is learning to pass clean which is very difficult. In an effort to race clean, he is holding back sometimes. Hard to find the balance, but he is definitely doing a great job trying.
June 21 - Matthew drives to another feature win at WaKeeney!
The night started out rough as Matthew completed hot laps and the heat race with engine problems. After pulling the engine last week to fix a broken oil pan, there had been a lot of work done this past few days. The boys were not sure what was wrong now, but you could hear it wasn't running quite run. They made a lot of changes and were rushing to get her back together as the field was lining up for the feature. Going in to this feature, Steve was hoping for top five, but wasn't sure it was going to run any better.
Matthew started in the 4th position and by the third lap, he was in the lead. The cautions kept coming out. Because of the work on the engine, we didn't have time to refuel so I was starting to worry about that. I lost count of the number of cautions, but with each restart, Matthew managed to still pull ahead. Matthew had been really ill the two days before, so that was another factor. I am not sure how he did it, but he wasn't definitely wiped out afterwards.
It was Father's Day and Steve said that was the best father's day gift he could ever get. We celebrated at AppleBee's - a short celebration as all Matthew wanted to do was go to sleep!

Crowell took the lead from Kent Tammen on lap 3 and never looked back on his way to the winner’s circle. Jerry Hudson finished second, trailed by Casey Gilmore, heat two winner B.J. Dauer, and Kirk Karst. Only 9 of the 18 scheduled starters finished the race. G.W. ‘Cheeseburger’ Fuller won the other heat race.

I updated pictures this week with some season highlights so far for both Jacob's and Matthew's races. Check out the pics at http://www.crowellracing.com. I had to take a vacation day just to catch up on the web site!
Next week, we will be at 81 Speedway on Thursday for what looks to be the final Thursday night show for a while. For the weekend, we'll be in Goodland and Colby. See you at the races!
